Transportation Scavenger Hunt

The American Planning Association NY Metro Chapter's Transportation Committee and YPT-NYC: Young Professionals in Transportation - Greater NYC Chapter are excited to bring back the Transportation Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, April 26th!

When: Saturday, April 26th; 10:00AM to 3:00 PM
Where: Meet at Bowling Green (by the benches and the fountain) to start -- but the hunt will take you all across the City!
RSVP: Please sign up here:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ypt-nyc-apa-nym-transportation-scavenger-hunt-tickets-1258901049929

How it works:

  • Teams of up to 5 people will compete for a chance to be crowned transportation scavengers-in-chief! We'll meet at Bowling Green at 10:00 am for an 11 am start.

  • Submit photos of your team with items/places you find on the clue board, which you'll find throughout the New York City transportation system. Point values vary depending on item/place (more information will be provided when you check in at Bowling Green).

  • The hunt will conclude at 3:00 pm. At 4:00 pm, we'll reconvene at a central meeting location for drinks, snacks, and also to award prizes!

To participate, you'll need:

  • $12.00 to register (proceeds go towards prizes and afterparty food)

  • A fare payment method - note that transit fares are at your own expense. There will also be plenty of ways to rack up points in public spaces!

  • At least one person with a data-enabled smartphone with WhatsApp per team.

  • A pair of comfortable running shoes (recommended).

If you don't have a pre-formed team, feel free to join the day-of and make new friends! We will be helping facilitate this when we meet at 10:00 am.

**More instructions will be sent closer to the event date to all registrants**

Event Info:

NYC has roughly 12,000 miles of curb space across the five boroughs. While historically used for vehicle parking, competing interests increasingly seek to use this precious space for bike lanes, ride-hailing, food delivery, outdoor dining, electric vehicle charging, and last mile distribution. In 2023, the Adam Administration released a Curb Management Action Plan that identified 10 strategies to reduce congestion, illegal double parking, and vehicle emissions while helping to move people, goods and services. The APA NY Metro Transportation Committee is excited to organize a panel to explore and discuss different perspectives from the public sector, private sector, and academia to answer the question, “what is the ideal future of the curb?” in NYC.  The panel is a follow up discussion from the curb management panel held in November 2023, “Greening the Last Mile: From Blue Highways to Microhubs.”

We are honored to be joined by our esteemed panelists and moderator:

  • Julie Stein, AICP, Executive Director at Union Square Partnership

  • Alison Conway, Professor of Civil Engineering at City College of New York

  • Sean Quinn, Associate Deputy Commissioner, Office of Livable Streets at New York City DOT

  • Austin Pferd, Director of Safety and Zero Emissions Vehicles at DutchX

Moderator:

  • Tiffany-Ann Taylor, Vice President for Transportation at Regional Plan Association
