NYC has roughly 12,000 miles of curb space across the five boroughs. While historically used for vehicle parking, competing interests increasingly seek to use this precious space for bike lanes, ride-hailing, food delivery, outdoor dining, electric vehicle charging, and last mile distribution. In 2023, the Adam Administration released a Curb Management Action Plan that identified 10 strategies to reduce congestion, illegal double parking, and vehicle emissions while helping to move people, goods and services. The APA NY Metro Transportation Committee is excited to organize a panel to explore and discuss different perspectives from the public sector, private sector, and academia to answer the question, “what is the ideal future of the curb?” in NYC. The panel is a follow up discussion from the curb management panel held in November 2023, “Greening the Last Mile: From Blue Highways to Microhubs.”
