Sections
APA-NYM’s Section Committees are made up of planners who live and/or work in New York City, Long Island, Hudson Valley East, and Hudson Valley West. Visit the Section pages below to learn about upcoming events and trainings in your area, and learn how to get involved with APA-NYM initiatives specific to your region.
New York City Chapter
The New York City Section of the American Planning Association New York Metro Chapter encompasses the five boroughs of New York City (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island). The Section hosts a variety of social and educational events throughout the year, and often co-hosts events with other professional and cultural organizations.
Hudson Valley East Chapter
The Lower Hudson Valley East section includes Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties on the east side of the Hudson River in New York State. Our members work in a diverse environment that ranges from large urban cities, such as Yonkers, to small rural villages and towns. Section activities focus on providing educational courses (such as CM courses) to the membership at various locations that are convenient to the wide geographic area of the section’s three counties. Networking events are also a part of the section’s programming with occasional after-work happy hours, that are also held in locations convenient to the section’s membership. The section is also undertaking the development of a Lower Hudson Valley East committee, which will act as a forum to discuss relevant planning issues for the section.
Hudson Valley West Chapter
The Hudson Valley West Section covers Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster Counties. We are working to create a local planning network for Hudson Valley West regional issues, and to build a bridge between HVW and other New York regions.
Long Island Chapter
Long Island Section members are private and municipal planners, public officials, and concerned citizens that work or reside in Nassau or Suffolk Counties. The Section offers educational and social events including workshops, panels, guest speakers, and joint meetings with other professional groups. Learn more
