NYC has the nation’s most extensive public transit system, yet transit deserts persist, increasing reliance on single-occupancy vehicles and often limiting housing density.
As part of the Penn Station Access project, Metro-North’s New Haven Line will be extended to Penn Station, bringing four new stations to the East Bronx—Hunts Point, Morris Park, Co-op City, and Parkchester/Van Ness. Paired with the City of Yes initiatives, which rezone areas around these stations from commercial and manufacturing to residential, the NYC Council projects the creation of 7,000 new housing units.
This panel will explore the Bronx as a case study to examine how transit-oriented developments (TODs) shape NYC by integrating transportation investments with residential growth to drive community revitalization and economic development.
We are excited to be joined by our esteemed panelists and moderator:
Jessica Wurwarg, Director of Planning, Policy and Economic Development, Transit Oriented Development at MTA C&D
Michael Kavalar, AICP, Senior Team Leader at NYC Department of City Planning
Kimberly McNabb, Deputy Director of Planning and Development at the Office of the Bronx Borough President
Moses Gates, Vice President for Housing and Neighborhood Planning at Regional Plan Association
Moderator:
Kristopher Takacs, Global Head of Stations and TOD & Principal Architect at AECOM
