Long Island Section members are private and municipal planners, public officials, and concerned citizens that work or reside in Nassau or Suffolk Counties. The Section offers educational and social events including workshops, panels, guest speakers, and joint meetings with other professional groups. Section activities and events are organized by the Steering Committee. Steering Committee meetings are held the second Friday of each month and are open to all APA members. No additional dues or requirements are necessary to join and participation is encouraged.

- EAST END AICP CM PROGRAMS – September 16 and October 15 - 5:00-7:30 PM
Please join the the LI Section on each of these dates for two informative recorded APA presentations. September 16: Paying for Growth (1.0 CM) and Inclusionary Housing (1.50 CM). October 15: Economics of Density (1.25 CM) and Teardowns, Monster Homes and Appropriate infill (1.0 CM) and earn 4.75 AICP credits if you attend all. There is a $20 fee for each of the dates. The fee for each date includes two presentations and a break for pizza in between ($10 if you only attend one). This is a simple and effective way to stay abreast of new developments and best practices and earn AICP credits. - THE MOSES LEGACY - LEADERS IN GOVERNMENT SYMPOSIUM - September 18 - 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM
The Center for Study of Executive Leadership, the Center for Regional Policy Studies at Stony Brook University, and Senator Kenneth P. LaValle present the 8th Symposium in the "Leaders in Government" series. Program begins with registration/continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by panel discussions analyzing the impact of Robert Moses on Long Island’s development. The program is followed by a luncheon, with a keynote address by Robert Caro, Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Power Broker and other books. At SUNY Stony Brook Student Activities Center. Its Movie Night with the LI Section! Get together with other planners for the movie, Walmart, the High Cost of Low Prices . Watch the movie from 5-630 in the comfortable board room seats at Cameron Engineering's Woodbury office:100 Sunnyside Blvd. After the the movie we reconvene down the street from 6:30-8:00 at 215 Sunnyside Blvd. at the Plainview Holiday Inn for no other reason than to chat, eat snacks, and drink (Planners Punch?). - SUFFOLK COUNTY PLANNING FEDERATION - FALL PLANNING CONFERENCE – October 23 - 3:00-9:30 PM
Please save the late afternoon and evening of October 23 for this year's Suffolk County Planning Federation Fall Conference, co-sponsored by the LI Section of NY Metro APA and the Suffolk County Planning Commission. Nine sessions are planned in the following preliminary topics: Planning Case Law, Ethics, Transportation, Workforce Housing, LI's Mega Projects, Energy, SEQRA, Zoning Board Fundamentals, and Planning Board Fundamentals. The Conference can satisfy the four hours of annual continuing education for Planning and Zoning Board members required under New York State law. Requests for AICP continuing education credits will be submitted for most of the program.
